I was really lucky to work with Hannah Webster and Ruth Hannan on developing some illustrations timed to help draw attention to their new report - The Case for Care Solidarity.
The brief was to create something that depicted the humanity, joy and privilege of care alongside the challenges and contradictions inherent in the ''system'' so many of us will encounter when we inevitably give or receive care at different times in our lives. As the report and the illustrations say: “Care is woven into all our lives and lifespans”.
I can't wait to see how the Care Full team use these illustrations to get more eyeballs on their important work and their fresh and collaborative take on how to make things better for all of us in the months ahead.

The work in progress…
The contradictions of care are very stark and really jumped out at me during our conversations about this project. I wanted to depict the isolation of carers and people who need care, but not in an objectifying or sad way, as this project was about hope, solidarity and the power of people coming together and sharing their thoughts, experiences and ideas for change.
We talked about Movements for change and solidarity, including ‘craftivism’ and trades union banners and marches. I created all the banners individually and compiled the elements into a mini ‘set’ and photographed them to create the final images.
"As a new organisation launching our inaugural report into the world we wanted a visually striking image that captured the sentiment of the work. Bex was thoughtful, attentive and responsive to our needs. She created something beautiful and impactful for us, she even got little visuals of us in there! We can't recommend Bex highly enough."
